Jumbled Laundry

Your challenge is to use the materials to move clothes so each group is sorted together
Time:
This is a two-part challenge.
In Part I, you will have 5 minutes. You will be warned when 2 minutes and when 1 minute remains.
In Part II, you will have 3 minutes. You will be warned when 1 minute and 30 seconds remain.
You are allowed to ask the judges questions and talk to each other at any time. Time will not be stopped.
Supplies:
Scoring Items:
5 socks, 5 neck-ties, 5 pairs of shorts, 5 t-shirts, 5 bandanas.
Work Materials:
3 pieces of string, 72"
*1 ruler
1 piece 8.5” x 11" paper
4 plastic straws
10 paper clips
5 rubber bands
*2 plastic ladles or serving spoons
1 plastic spoon
1 plastic fork
3 small paper plates
2 12” pieces of masking tape
*2 yardsticks
1 paper cup (approx. 8 oz)
*mark with label (items may not be daamged or altered)
Set-up:
Set up the site on the floor with 5 score areas and a taped work area. (See Figure A.)
Place X’s or some type of mark on where each item should be located: 5 socks, 5 neck-ties, 5 pairs of shorts, 5 t-shirts, 5 bandanas. Be sure to label the scoring areas in such a way that is visible from the work area.
Scatter the clothing items in and around the boxes. Place some between the boxes, some in the wrong box, some in front of the boxes, but nothing behind the boxes.

Rules:
There is a taped setup, scoring items, and materials to solve the problem (point to each). You are not allowed to change the setup or damage anything with a label (point).
Your challenge is to use the materials to move items of clothing so each group is sorted together (point to taped areas).
For example, all the socks would go together in one scoring area, all the T-shirts in another, etc.
In Part I you will create your solution and practice as you wish.
When Part I is over you will place the scoring items back in their original spots. Then, you will move into the work area along with any materials you need to solve the problem (point).
In Part II:
- you will move the clothing items for score.
- you are not allowed to leave the work area (point) except to retrieve a material.
- you cannot touch the items at any time.
- an item is inside a scoring area if some part is within the taped line.
Competition is over when you ask to be scored or when time ends.
Scoring:
You will be scored as follows:
(a) Each clothing item in the correct scoring area will receive 5 points.
(b) You will receive 2 to 10 points for the creative use of materials. (c) You will receive 1 to 15 points for how well you work together.
Debriefing:
Were team member tasks and responsibilities sorted out clearly?
Did the team work out a plan for its solution?
Did the team use the materials effectively?
Was there a better way to contruct the moving apparatus?
Was time used effectively?
Was it better to focus on certain items, type, ease of access ?
Video the team and review teamwork and problems encountered.
What would the team do differently if they did it again?
Repeat the challenge with the same or different setup.
