For almost 40 years, throughout the state whenever somebody thinks about the Primary problem, one name has always popped to mind... Jackie Otte.
A natural choice, as an elementary school educator, Jackie has thrived working with our younger OMers. Her nurturing and warm personality has helped ease the nerves of many children. Her patience and love of helping coaches understand the process of the program has resulted in so many of our Primary teams continuing on to have a long time love of Odyssey.
So it is with a heavy heart we bring you the news that Jackie made the decision to pass on the Primary State Problem Captain torch this year. Jackie was considerate enough to recommend her replacement. A person that she has worked with for many years and who Jackie has full confidence will be an excellent State Problem Captain.
We would like to introduce our new State Problem Captain for Primary...
Mary Beth Sullivan from Region 14.
Mary Beth Sullivan began her involvement with Odyssey of the Mind in 2006 when as a school principal she helped out as a coach. After taking a new teaching position, she continued to coach teams at the Primary and Divisions I and II levels, often coaching several teams at a time. Her favorite Odyssey coaching experience was the year she co-coached six teams. A few years ago she moved to judging Primary.
Mary Beth is also a summer camp director for the Girl Scouts and loves Broadway musicals, being outdoors, reading and exploring new places. She is delighted to follow Jackie’s path and to be assisting coaches and regional problem captains on the Primary Problem!
Primary will not be the same without Jackie’s smiling face, the love she oozes around our younger OMers and the calm she instills in everybody. Mary Beth has big shoes to fill but we know she can do it and we offer her our full support.
